Call for Photoexhibition n poetry reading...'Romancing the by lane' explorations of a 'city'

Romancing the by lanes’

The Literary Society of N.I.F.T, New Delhi invites you to “Romancing the by
lanes”,
an event that explores the junta’s concepts of what a city comprises
‘of’… The event comprises of: Poetry Readings by urban-traveler poet Brian
Mendonca apart from students, photography exhibition and screening of short
films.

Date: 18th January 2006
Venue:the Kund at N.I.F.T campus, Hauz Khas, New Delhi
Time: exhibition 12:30pm onwards
time for poetry reading 5:30pm
and screening of films

This is an invitation as well as a Call for participants for the photography
and poetry-reading sections…

‘Romancing the by-lanes’ is a celebration of the urban experience as a mix
of the beautiful and the grotesque in terms of everything and not only
Romanticising the quaintness of it in a superficial orientalist way but more
so penetrating through it’s surface and exploring it’s inner geography…

The theme is the ‘city’. Now there are no limitations as to which city you
have sketched in words or by film…You should ideally be able to capture the
essence of a particular city with the poem/photos…the sub-themes could be say
juxtapositions, professions-‘the wallahs’, public transport, funny signages,
rush hours, by lanes, kitsch, local cuisine, Bollywood, urban life,
community/community areas-ghettos, sky scrapers, malls, sleazy movie posters,
red light areas, spaces, urban ruins, paradoxes, migration, displacement,
waiting,…
Anything banal or profound or the discovery of the profound in the banal…

Creative Scraping

Every day cities of India are churning out mountains of plastic and non bio-degradable waste.

And yet, ours has been a culture of not wasting anything, of reusing every scrap.

In small towns and villages, as well as with experimenters around the country, this is still the norm.

In this swapathgami meeting, we hope to explore:-
What kinds of creative and useful things are we making (or can we make) out of waste?- How can we connect 'recycling' and 'upcycling' with art, architecture, music, farming, festivals, etc.?- How do we expand understandings around 'Refuse, Reduce, Recycle, Reuse, Regenerate'?- How can we make a healthy livelihood from waste?- How do we nurture 'zero waste zones' in our families and communities?

Bring your kabaad creations and join us at Karm Marg,in Faridabad, Haryana, India, from December 16-19,2005 for an interactive gathering.
